I Have Resurrection Magic
Chapter 99
CHAPTER 99
The capital city of Valterion was struck by a great earthquake.
The scene was pure pandemonium.
Even on modern Earth, a great earthquake leaves behind irreparable scars.
Likewise, casualties were occurring everywhere.
If left unchecked, the number of injured would soon lead to a massive death toll.
“Aranseol, Arshel, Lululio, bring all the injured over here. Babiyen, I’m leaving the clearing of collapsed building debris to you.”
“Got it.”
“We need to move quickly.”
Aranseol and Babiyen moved to save people without a moment’s hesitation.
Seeing this, Lululio looked back at me with an expression of surprise.
“Harua-nim, don’t you hate this-worlders, sir?”
I guess she’d figured it out after spending some time with me.
It was true. I disliked and detested the people of this world.
But that was a separate issue.
“Whether I hate this-worlders or not, if society collapses, we all die together.”
Societal collapse was one of the things I feared most.
It was why I was so desperately trying to stop those Black Dawn bastards.
For me to live, society had to be maintained.
That held true even if it was the society of the this-worlders I hated.
“Ahaha, so that’s it, is it, sir?”
Lululio let out a strange laugh and quickly turned away.
At the same time, her body once again disassembled, splitting into multiple copies of herself.
“I’ll bring a whole bunch of ‘em over, ssumda! The Holy Church will be on the move too, so we should just have to take care of this area, sir!”
As Lululio zipped away, Arshel hesitated for a moment before finally joining in.
She had to pay me back for saving her life.
Under my direction, everyone began to move swiftly.
There were countless people buried or trapped in buildings all around.
With the injured everywhere, we couldn't just leave them be.
The wounded began to gather in front of me, pile by pile.
Facing them, I rolled up my sleeves and activated my Holy Magic.
This was Holy Magic I had trained by using even Resurrection.
Healing this many injured people was no difficult task.
“Ah, ahh, thank… thank you so much.”
“Sob, sniff, thank you for saving me.”
I received their thanks but paid them no mind, moving on to activate Holy Magic on the next person.
It was quite rare to cast Holy Magic on such a large number of people at once.
Because of that, it was a pretty good source of experience for me as well.
Of course, among them were those who had already died.
People who’d been in the wrong place when a building came down.
Among them was a mother who died shielding her child, and a son who died trying to protect his elderly parents.
The sound of someone’s wailing could be heard ceaselessly from all directions.
It was a chain reaction of sorrow, born from the pain of losing a loved one.
I have Resurrection magic.
It was the key that could solve their sorrow.
But I couldn’t use it.
The moment I did, Black Dawn’s wariness of me would skyrocket.
To lure them out, I had to keep my Resurrection magic hidden.
I wasn’t a saint, nor was I a figure to be revered.
I was just an ordinary citizen who wanted society to be maintained.
“Thank you so much.”
“You’ve saved my life.”
“Thank you for saving our son.”
So this wasn't something I deserved to be thanked for.
Before I knew it, the number of people I had healed surpassed a thousand.
The people who were healed by me willingly joined in to save others.
They worked together to clear collapsed buildings and searched for people trapped in the debris to pull them out.
It didn’t matter if they were this-worlders or Transferees.
Everyone was desperate, united in their single-minded goal to save people.
“Saint-nim! More injured!”
“Here, this person’s bleeding is critical! Please, help them first!”
“Gather the critical patients over here! Prioritize them!”
At some point, a temporary tent was set up, and the critically injured were separated from those with minor wounds.
Occasionally, someone from the minor injury group would shout that they were in pain too, but they shut their mouths the moment they saw me.
I had healed several thousand people.
Perhaps because of that, I didn't look to be in great shape myself.
“Saint-nim, shouldn’t you get some rest?”
“It’s fine. I’m used to it.”
Someone asked with concern, but I waved my hand, telling them not to worry.
“And the title ‘Saint’ makes me uncomfortable. I’m not really anything of the sort.”
“But…”
“In a situation like this, any Holy Mage or member of the Holy Church would step up. We’re all just helping each other live.”
“Ah…”
Sometimes, I just mixed in some moderately nice-sounding words in my replies.
If I put these people in my debt now, it would be helpful in some way later on.
Since I had to keep living in Valterion anyway, making people owe me their lives was a pretty good strategy.
Before long, the number of people I’d treated surpassed ten thousand.
It seemed I was reaching the point of Holy Power exhaustion, as my vision started to blur.
Drip—
I wiped away the blood that trickled from my nose with my finger.
Was this my limit?
But there were still so many injured.
A steady stream of critical patients was appearing from all over.
“Harua.”
“Are you okay?”
Babiyen and Aranseol checked on me from time to time, but I told them I was fine.
It wasn’t time to rest yet.
Fortunately, more Holy Mages joined my cause, inspired by my efforts.
They helped shoulder the burden of the injured, which eased my workload.
“Harua-nim!”
In addition, the Holy Church heard the news and sent reinforcements.
Among them was Aigis, the commander leading the Holy Knights.
“Are you alright? We will begin assisting with rescue operations immediately!”
“This area is fine. We’ve mostly cleared the vicinity, and the injured are being transported from the outer areas. Aigis-nim, please handle the zones further out.”
There was a limit to how far we could operate.
But Aigis could move much farther.
Upon hearing my words, Aigis’s expression turned emotional, and she dabbed at the corners of her eyes.
“Harua-nim, what a truly noble character. The Holy Church, as well as the Imperial Palace, will surely hold your good deeds today in high esteem.”
“While they’re holding me in high esteem, I hope they give me a hefty reward.”
“We will officially recognize you as a Saint of the Holy Church!”
“I’ll have to decline.”
Trying to proselytize at a time like this.
Aigis came to my side and cast a Holy Magic spell imbued with Divine Power on me.
A warmth spread through my body, and the tingling numbness faded slightly.
“The Embrace of Holy Light will be with you.”
“Thank you.”
She gave a broad smile and a thumbs-up.
“Well then, I will see you again after we have saved everyone.”
Aigis immediately led the Holy Knights toward the outer districts.
“Harua.”
As I was busy treating people, another unexpected person appeared. It was Lieutenant General Inferno, who was mobilizing the Regular Army.
“I heard from Lululio. You really were here, healing people.”
He looked at the makeshift clinic and let out a breath.
“Aren’t you pushing yourself quite a bit?”
“I’m pacing myself. You know my Ability, after all.”
Even if I die from mana exhaustion, I’ll just come back to life.
Inferno, who knew this well, sighed even more deeply.
“I knew that, but still, you’re really not in your right mind.”
“The world’s a bit too harsh to live in one’s right mind.”
“Right. You did well. Thanks to you, we were able to reduce the number of Regular Army personnel dispatched to this area. Is there anything you need help with?”
“People are turning into bandits all over the area. In this chaos, some are trying to loot valuables. We need to catch them to prevent secondary damage.”
“I’ll get on it right away.”
Inferno mobilized the Regular Army and patted me on the shoulder.
“I know about your Ability, but take care of yourself. It would be a problem if those Black Dawn bastards targeted you in the middle of all this.”
“Lululio is always sticking by my side, so I should be fine.”
“When I tell you to take care of yourself, just take the hint.”
“I prefer the direct approach.”
I played along with his words as my gaze fell to the ground.
“Lieutenant General Inferno, will Nox be alright?”
Nox, the city beneath Valterion.
There was a high probability Horizon had gone there, so I asked out of concern.
Inferno scratched the back of his head.
“We’re checking on it. Honestly, the situation probably isn’t good.”
So that’s how it is.
If the surface is in this state, there’s no way the underground would be unscathed.
“Do you have an acquaintance in Nox?”
“Yes, I know some people in Monghwagol.”
“I’ll let you know as soon as I hear anything, so try not to worry too much.”
“I’m counting on you.”
With that, Inferno departed.
Watching him go, I rolled up my sleeves again.
I’ll do what I can.
I can’t let this damn world fall to ruin.
The night ended, and soon it was morning.
No more injured were found in the immediate area, and everyone, exhausted, was dozing off while sitting on the bare ground.
As fate would have it, the earthquake had struck in the middle of winter.
If Babiyen hadn't gone around with other fire mages lighting fires, it would have been dangerous.
I could see people distributing blankets they’d gotten from somewhere and others cooking morning stew.
Still, the coldest winter night had passed, so it seemed we would get through today as well.
“Harua.”
As I was watching the people, Aranseol approached.
She had been struggling just as much as I had, all over the place.
Because of that, Aranseol was covered in dust.
“Aranseol, use this to wipe your face.”
I handed her a water-soaked towel, which she accepted gratefully and used to clean her face.
Then, after taking a breath, she sat down next to me.
“It’s been a crazy day.”
“You worked hard.”
“I don’t think that’s something I should be hearing from you.”
Aranseol said, then moved the towel to wipe my nose.
I guess there was still a trace of the nosebleed.
Aranseol looked at me with a slightly pitying expression before breaking into a smile.
“You did a good thing, so I won’t scold you for overdoing it.”
“Then I’ll be as proud as I want.”
“Hehehe, you can. I’ll praise you as much as you like.”
Aranseol said this as she rested her head on my shoulder.
“Harua, the people here right now… everyone, regardless of whether they were Transferees, was desperate to save others.”
Aranseol hated Transferees.
Perhaps because of that, she had been observing our surroundings with the same perspective as me.
“In the end, Transferees and us… we were all just people.”
A great disaster.
In the face of such a catastrophe, a person is no more than a mere insect.
Small insects, unless they band together, will be swept away and die in a disaster. That’s why everyone, Transferee or this-worlder, banded together to survive.
In that, people from any world were no different.
“I wonder if the most ideal world that you and I dream of is a world like this.”
Aranseol and I both knew.
This was just a winter fantasy, created in the wake of a great disaster.
Eventually, once today passed and more time flowed, Transferees and this-worlders would go back to hating each other.
But that was fine.
At least for this one day, they were all the same.
“I suppose so.”
Even if it was just a fantasy.
Perhaps the day would come when this fantasy becomes reality.
After all, people live by dreaming of a utopia.
Those who dream of a utopia are strong.
Strong enough to burn themselves out to achieve it.
Mi-Myeongnyeong rose into the cold winter sky.
I believe that Mi-Myeongnyeong, illuminating the deep blue winter sky, became a source of warmth for someone, however small.
