I Have Resurrection Magic

Chapter 1

CHAPTER 1

People think that if they get transferred to another world, they'll be able to dominate with their modern knowledge.
But once you're actually here, you realize one simple fact.
I really don't know shit.
They say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.
The average person doesn't even know how their everyday computer, cellphone, or microwave works.
Turn the faucet, and water comes out.
Turn on the heat, and it gets warm.
If you're hungry, you order delivery.
All the things you took for granted in your daily life are impossible for a single individual to achieve.
Of course, those with specialized knowledge might be able to accomplish something.
Unfortunately, that wasn't me.
20 years old.
Someone who'd never once pondered the principles behind the things used in modern life.
That was me.
"Hey, porter! Hold that straight if you don't wanna die!"
A man's rough voice boomed from behind me. In front of me, a large man was running like crazy.
He was my employer.
Suddenly transferred to this world, I had no identification, nothing to my name.
It was the perfect condition to be targeted by criminals.
I was someone the guards could execute on the spot without any repercussions.
There was only one way for me to survive.
I had to beg on my hands and knees at the Transferee Association to get my identity secured and find a job.
My current role was a porter.
And the man currently cursing at me was my employer.
"Ugh, hah, I'm holding it! I'm holding it properly!"
Truthfully, despite his words, he wasn't a bad person.
He always paid me on time, bought me drinks for my hard work, and taught me how to survive in this world.
But the current situation was so urgent that words were just flying out of his mouth.
Didn't I get any special perks from the transfer?
I did get one.
But it's completely useless right now.
So, for now, all I could do was rely on my sturdy 20-year-old body and work as a porter.
It was the best I could do with no specialized knowledge.
"A guy as pale as you has no strength!"
“What do you want me to do about being pale! I think I’m short on melanin, I’m only getting paler!”
"You transferee brat, stop using difficult words!"
“You’re a mage, you should be smart enough to understand!”
Just then, my employer ran over and snatched half the luggage from me.
He was a professional pioneer hired by the Pioneer's Guild.
Thirty-seven years old this year.
A man named Bulldog.
I wondered how a person could be named Bulldog, but it turned out the dog breed itself didn't exist here.
Anyway, true to his name, he had a fiery temper.
But he was also built like a tank, so even carrying half my load, he ran with long, steady strides.
"Run! We're really gonna die at this rate!"
"Aaaah, yes, sir!"
I answered him and ran for my life.
Right now, a snake big enough to swallow a person whole was chasing us like mad.
We passed through a forest of overwhelmingly massive trees.
This place was the 2nd World.
A different world from the 1st World where I was transferred.
We had just stolen the egg of the snake that was chasing us.
It was a material that sold for an incredibly high price.
So, the mother snake was royally pissed and chasing us with the intent to kill.
The square-faced mother snake roared, spewing venom.
I felt like my legs were about to give out at any moment.
I've been working as a porter for five months now, but I can't get used to this.
"Almost there!"
Just then, Bulldog-ssi shouted in a loud voice.
He leaped powerfully over a tree root as big as our bodies.
I also stomped on a foothold I had hammered into the root earlier and somehow managed to jump over it.
The mother snake chased after us, sticking its head over the root.
The moment it did, a magic circle carved into the root shone with a fierce light.
It was a trap magic that Bulldog had set up.
He might be built like a mountain, but that man was a combat mage.
KABOOOOOOOM!
The mother snake's head was caught in the explosion magic and blown to bits.
THUD!
Shortly after, the mother snake's head fell to the ground beyond the root.
Its nerves were still alive, as it twitched and spasmed, but it showed no signs of moving.
"Whew, that was a close one."
Bulldog-ssi put down his luggage and caught his breath.
I stared at him blankly for a moment before speaking.
"Mister, do you really need to take on such risky jobs?"
Now that I could breathe, I realized just how dangerous that was.
Bulldog-ssi was a more competent pioneer than he looked.
He knew his own limits and usually didn't hunt such dangerous creatures.
"What can I do? My son's getting married soon, I have to give him something.
The egg and materials from a Jaungseung Snake will fetch a handsome price."
What a doting fool.

He really loves his son to death.
"Don't you have a gift for me, who's as young as your son?"
"Kid, you should be grateful I just let you tag along."
He had a point.
In reality, very few pioneers would hire a transferee with no abilities.
The 1st World, Astrape.
In this world, Transferees appear periodically.
They are dropped into the 1st World without knowing why and have to find a way to live.
A transferee with no money and nothing to their name.
There's no way for them to survive.
That's why they easily fall into a life of crime.
It’s the worst kind of vicious cycle.
As such, Transferees are objects of hatred.
I know because I suffered from that baseless hatred quite a bit in the beginning.
Seeing my gloomy face, Bulldog-ssi lit a cigarette.
"Harua, you're a No-Named, right? Do you really not have any Ability?"
Even though I was transferred to the 1st World, I had forgotten my name.
This phenomenon was a symptom that appeared in a small number of Transferees.
One peculiar thing is that those who forget their names awaken a more special "Ability" than other Transferees.
And this was also the reason why No-Nameds were particularly hated.
There was no law saying that those with power had to be good people.
"Just because you're a No-Named doesn't mean you get a special Ability."
If the ability is useless, it's better to pretend it doesn't exist.
I approached the Jaungseung Snake's head and plunged a dagger into its forehead.
After peeling off a few scales, I saw the soft flesh underneath.
Digging into that flesh, a jade-colored gem soon emerged.
The magic stone of a Fantasy Species, the Jaungseung Snake.
It was a useful energy resource in the 1st World.
"The color's a bit ambiguous. I spent a lot of money to draw a high-level magic circle for this."
"Still, if we argue, don't you think they'll grade it as green-class?"
"Go gather the scales."
"Ah, but the egg is already heavy."
"You brat, you're a porter. Why are you complaining so much about carrying luggage!"
I grumbled but started gathering the scales.
I knew that if I did this, Bulldog-ssi would add a little extra to my daily wage.
Once I gathered all the scales, the pack became incredibly heavy.
It seemed Bulldog-ssi's gamble had paid off.
This would be more than enough to help his son buy a house.
Unlike usual, Bulldog-ssi also looked to be in a good mood.
If I played my cards right, I might get a bigger bonus.
"We've got a lot of loot, let's head back for today."
"Yes, sounds good to me."
We packed up our things and started moving, passing one giant tree after another.
In the 2nd World, the plants are abnormally large.
Because of that, just getting over a single tree root was a major task.
I wonder if this is what it feels like to be an ant.
"Harua."
Bulldog-ssi called my new name, the one he gave me in the 1st World.
After five months, I was quite used to it now.
"Have you heard about the No-Named serial killer on the loose lately?"
"I've heard it so much my ears are about to fall off."
"Good. For a while, try not to act like a Transferee."
His advice was worth listening to.
The recent rampage of the No-Named serial killer.
Because of him, the hatred from the residents of the 1st World towards No-Nameds had reached its peak.
I wish he'd restrain himself a little, for the sake of the people who are just trying to live quietly.
There were too many insane people in this world.
Thanks to him, I now had to hide the fact that I was a Transferee.
If I wasn't careful, I'd get kicked out of shops, so I had no choice.
"Why can't this damn world ever be free of incidents? It's too harsh for an ordinary citizen to live in."
"That's how it is wherever people live."
Despite my grumbling, Bulldog-ssi answered calmly.
Do people become detached from the world by the time they're thirty-seven?
I'm not that age yet, so I wouldn't know.
As we talked, the entrance back to the 1st World began to come into view.
I could see the shape of a giant gate.
"I should get back, wash up, and rest."
"Harua."
Just as I was about to breathe a sigh of relief, Bulldog-ssi suddenly stopped walking.
He held out a hand in front of him and stared blankly past a tree root.
My gaze followed his.
Soon, a red bloodstain came into my view.
Additionally, on top of the bloodstain, there was a chunk of bloody flesh.
Oh, shit.
A terrible, ominous premonition shot through my entire body.
Bulldog-ssi had the same reaction.
Because that corpse was freshly killed.
"......How long do you think it'll take to run to the gate from here?"
He asked quietly in a low voice.
"Five minutes. We'll have to run for at least five minutes."
The gate was close, but there was still some distance.
It was a distance that would take a good five minutes of running to reach.

"It won't do us any good to turn back. Drop the luggage and run with all your might."
An excellent decision.
When your life is on the line, luggage and everything else is meaningless.
I prepared to drop the pack at any moment.
At the same time, Bulldog-ssi drew his staff and began to accumulate power.
It looked like he planned to set the forest on fire to buy us some time.
A quick decision, just as expected from a veteran pioneer.
"Run."
The moment he swung his staff, I threw down the luggage and sprinted forward with all my might.
Slice!
At that moment, a chilling sound echoed from behind me.
I instinctively turned my head, and there, a single head was flying through the air.
It was the head of Bulldog-ssi, whose face had been blooming with a smile over his son's wedding.
His head flew for a moment, trailing a long stream of blood, before falling to the ground.
Something had cut his throat.
That was the only thing I could register.
Stab!
Immediately after, something pierced through my chest.
It was something transparent, invisible to the eye.
Blood gushed from my chest.
My already pale skin turned even whiter than before.
A pain so intense it felt like my mind would snap surged through me.
The pain was so strong that my voice wouldn't come out, only choked gasps.
The transparent blade that had pierced my chest was pulled out.
At the same time, the impact from behind sent me tumbling to the ground.
My consciousness quickly faded.
It was the price for losing so much blood.
I saw a pair of blood-stained shoes.
But the shoes soon turned transparent and disappeared.
"An... Ability."
That was definitely an invisibility-type ability.
And a high-level one at that, enough for even Bulldog-ssi not to sense its presence.
It's him.
That's the serial killer who's been making a name for himself lately.
"Son of a... bitch."
With that, something came crashing down on my head.
This world is fucking awful.
CRUNCH!
With the sensation of my skull shattering and my brain being pierced...
I died.

And a few hours later. I opened my eyes again.
In a horrific state, my chest and head covered in blood.
I coughed up the blood filling my windpipe and shook out the blood that had entered my ears.
Then my mind cleared up a bit.
"......This damned resurrection."
I am a No-Named.
And in fact, I do have an Ability.
A completely useless one, at that.
Resurrection magic.
Resurrection.
I...
...have...
...resurrection...
...magic.

I have resurrection magic.
