I Have Resurrection Magic
Chapter 61
CHAPTER 61
After receiving the milk from the Designated Merchant, I followed Inferno into a gloomy room. It was a room that had been specially treated to prevent any sound from leaking out.
"I'm surprised the Regular Army has such a creepy place."
“It’s a place that wouldn’t be accepted in modern society, but in this day and age, it’s indispensable.”
True, even modern societies had interrogation rooms like this during wartime. In an era far less advanced than modern civilization, and with the tension of war in the air, no fool would raise an objection over a mere interrogation room. In this world, the only ones who could raise objections were the strong who possessed power.
"Alright, I'll revive her now."
"Go ahead."
Having already seen me revive the Designated Merchant with his own two eyes, he gave his permission immediately.
Without delay, I took out the finger from my pocket and activated my resurrection magic. Because I was reviving a person from just a finger, I felt a significant drain on my power, but it wasn't unbearable.
A moment later, a female body was fully formed. Pitch-black hair and red eyes. She looked just like the Sin of Wrath, the form she had taken with her Ability at the end. I never imagined that an Ability would carry over through resurrection magic. Her Ability was practically on the level of completely transforming her body into someone else's. To anyone who didn't know, she was the spitting image of the Sin of Wrath.
Just as expected of a No-Named. This is why the people of this world couldn't handle rampaging No-Named Transferees. There were more than a few Abilities just as broken as Resurrection.
"Hh, ughh."
At that moment, a sound escaped the No-Named Killer's lips. Her eyelids slowly opened. A moment later, her gaze met ours.
After a moment of silence, the No-Named Killer shot up from her spot. Without hesitation, she swung her hand, aiming for my neck.
A translucent red light formed on her hand. It was aura, a biological weapon of mana manifested when a non-attribute user awakens after long training. A weapon with enough cutting power to easily sever my fragile neck.
But next to me stood a man on a whole other level.
BOOOOM!
Inferno, who had instantly moved in front of me, slammed his fist into the No-Named Killer's abdomen. A deafening roar followed, and she was sent flying and rolling across the floor without a chance to resist.
He was fast. Much faster than the No-Named Killer.
Crack—
Inferno cracked his neck out of habit and approached the killer. He then mercilessly grabbed her by the hair and hauled her up. The killer, naked, was lifted powerlessly by her neck.
“I’ll tell you this upfront.”
But there was no mercy in Inferno's eyes. This was a woman who had impersonated the Sin of Wrath and, as a member of Black Dawn, had caused countless deaths. There was not a single reason to feel sympathy for her.
“I have no intention of going easy on a terrorist who goes around killing people for her own personal reasons.”
The killing intent flowing from Inferno filled the space. The pressure he emitted, a testament to his rank as a Lieutenant General, was so intense that one couldn't even part their lips to speak.
“When you feel like answering anything I ask, then you can speak up or signal your intent.”
Another explosion erupted from Inferno’s hand. The killer’s hair and the top of her head were burned away, and she collapsed.
“Even if you die, I won’t stop.”
And so, the merciless violence began.
"Disciple of my lady, you can leave if you don't want to watch."
“I’m fine.”
I watched the scene in silence.
Inferno knew how to inflict pain on people. He thoroughly broke the killer, as if he himself had experienced it before.
Even through all that, the killer kept her mouth shut to the very end.
The No-Named Killer finally gasped for breath and her eyes closed. Her breathing faded as she met her death. Just like before, she was a tenacious woman to the very last.
But for her, there is no rest.
Because I am here.
It is only today that I truly realize just how dangerous a magic resurrection is.
From my palm, the light of resurrection magic spread out once more.
The killer who had met her end was forced to open her eyes again.
Awakened from her rest, her eyes wavered with shock for the first time.
“Whenever you want to answer, feel free.”
Inferno ignited another explosion in his hand.
“I’ll wait for you, even if it takes years.”
The assassin lunged, but she was once again smashed to bits by Inferno. Just as before, Inferno completely destroyed her body.
Unlike her previous death, the assassin couldn't hold back her screams.
The will that had stubbornly endured, steeling itself for death, was beginning to crumble.
The assassin met her third death.
Of course, there was no rest for her.
She was forced to open her eyes once more, only to face Inferno's violence.
She was now beginning to realize the truth.
No matter how much she endured, she was merely spinning in a Mobius strip.
There was no escape from this hell.
The assassin struggled, crawling across the floor.
She was trying to flee, to get out of this place by any means necessary.
Unfortunately for her, no such luck would be granted.
Inferno had no intention of ever letting her go.
The assassin’s breath was cut off.
And then, it was reconnected.
If only she could have been revived in a mangled state.
But she was brought back perfectly whole, forced to experience the pain in its full vividness.
Just before Inferno’s fist could land once more.
“S-Stop.”
The assassin was prostrated on the floor, her head bowed low in a posture of complete submission.
A stream of liquid trickled down from between her legs.
“Stop, please stop. Please, I’m begging you, just stop.”
She pleaded earnestly.
“I don’t… I don’t want to come back to life. Please. Please. Just stop.”
The assassin clung to Inferno’s pant leg, wailing desperately.
“Feeling more talkative now?”
Inferno’s gaze was cold from behind his sunglasses.
The assassin nodded vigorously, as if ready to lick his feet.
In an instant, the No-Named assassin who had murdered so many had become an obedient little lamb.
“Good. From now on, write down everything you know about Black Dawn, as well as yourself. Fill this up.”
Inferno walked over and handed her a notebook and pencil he had set in the corner.
The assassin held them as if they were a precious treasure.
“And change back to your original form. I don’t want to look at that face anymore.”
“Y-Yes.”
The No-Named assassin hurriedly reverted to her true appearance.
She still had black hair, but her eyes were a brownish hue.
She was of East Asian descent.
Furthermore, she didn't look much older than me.
She did as Inferno instructed, diligently filling the notebook.
Every time Inferno so much as glanced at her, she would flinch, her body trembling with fear.
But most of all, she was afraid of me.
It was Inferno who had been directly violent with her.
And yet, she feared me more than anyone else.
The reason was simple.
She, too, understood who was the source of this endless, infinite cycle.
Inferno’s violence had an end.
But my resurrection was endless.
It was obvious which she would fear more.
“I-I’ve written everything. I don’t know what else to write, so… this is it.”
Her body shaking, she carefully handed the notebook to us.
Inferno took it first and began to read through it slowly.
After reading for a while, his eyes narrowed sharply.
He let out a long sigh and closed the notebook.
“Right. You’ve written it all down properly.”
“What does it say?”
“Take a look.”
I took the notebook from Inferno.
I immediately began to read through it.
The No-Named assassin.
Her name was Bel Mora.
Her Ability was Camouflage.
Age: 28.
Originally from China, she had a six-year-old daughter.
The daughter’s father had died in a traffic accident while at work.
Before being transferred, her daughter had gone missing, presumed kidnapped. She was transferred while searching for her daughter across China.
The reason she cooperated with Black Dawn was to return to Earth to find her daughter.
Black Dawn had told her that the Transcendents were responsible for the appearance of Transferees.
Because of this, she joined Black Dawn and did everything they asked.
The list of tasks Black Dawn had her perform was so extensive it was hard to read. It was full of things that were inhumane, where the ends justified any means.
Among them, the most prominent was the Artificial Transcendent Project.
“…Are these guys really trying to create an Artificial Transcendent?”
The corpse of an apostle, materials from Fantasy Species, and even the body parts of special demi-human tribes.
A project to remodel a human into a Transcendent by experimenting with everything and anything possible.
The modified monsters they created were failures from that process.
That was the Artificial Transcendent Project.
“Yeah. It’s what those psychopaths have been aiming for since the old days.”
Inferno shuddered at the thought of Black Dawn.
“We thought we’d wiped them all out after they lost the war. But they managed to inherit the project and start it up again.”
The Artificial Transcendent Project, which had been stopped once before.
Yet Black Dawn hadn't given up and was proceeding with it once more.
They were nothing short of a completely insane group.
“…Do you think it’s possible to return to Earth by completing an Artificial Transcendent?”
That was the reason the No-Named assassin, Bel Mora, had participated in the project.
She had willingly taken part in the hopes of returning to Earth to find her daughter.
Black Dawn claimed the Transcendents were responsible for the transfers.
Whether that was true or not, many Transferees had been swayed by this and joined hands with Black Dawn.
Unsurprisingly, she had only become an incomplete monster.
The project had yet to succeed.
“I don’t know. But at the very least, they’re using that promise to gather Transferees.”
There were surely Transferees who wanted to go home.
Even I found this world dreadful.
It was full of inconveniences, and danger was a constant companion.
Unless their life on Earth was worse than their life here, it was impossible not to want to return.
“And it’s the same for the people of this world. There are crazies who think they can rule the world if an Artificial Transcendent is completed.”
The Red Flame Lord.
The Master of the Silver Grace Magic Tower.
I finally understood why they had cooperated with Black Dawn.
“The Red Flame Lord and the Master of the Silver Grace Magic Tower worked with Black Dawn, didn't they?”
They were already influential figures in the world.
So why would they join hands with Black Dawn?
“…Wait, does this mean the Artificial Transcendent Project is getting closer to completion?”
When I posed the question, Inferno remained silent.
If Black Dawn truly succeeded in creating an Artificial Transcendent, what would happen?
Whatever the outcome, it was unlikely this world would remain intact.
Inferno wiped a hand down his face.
“……So it’s come to war, after all.”
The Regular Army would have wanted to avoid war if possible.
A war would cause immense damage not only to the Regular Army but to civilians as well.
But if Black Dawn was truly nearing the completion of their project, they had to be stopped, even if it meant war.
Damn it. I knew the world was heading in a strange direction.
And now, it looked like a war was about to break out.
“You did well.”
Inferno took the notebook back from me and turned around.
“I’ll deal with this woman separately. You can go. I’ll prepare your reward for later.”
My business here was done.
My eyes briefly fell on Bel Mora.
She was still prostrated on the floor, waiting for our conversation to end.
I didn't look at her for long.
The fighting spirit in Bel Mora’s eyes was completely broken.
She was so shattered that I doubted she could ever fully recover.
Our paths wouldn't cross again anyway.
Even if we did meet, she would surely flee in an instant.
I had gotten sufficient revenge for her stomping my head in and ruining Bulldog’s life.
With that, I left the Regular Army’s post.
Deep in my heart.
I tried to suppress an unidentifiable feeling of unease.
I guess I’m still a decent person, after all.
I was only vaguely aware of that fact.
